| General Information There are four main centres of population on Alonissos, all of which are to be found in the south of the island. These are the port of Patitiri, Roussoum Yialos, the town of Votsi and the Old Village on the hill above. There are also a few families who live in Steni Vala up the east coast of the island. The port of Patitiri is where all the ferries and high speed boats arrive and where the majority of the shops, supermarkets, tavernas and bars are located. As you stand with your back to the sea on the harbour front the road that goes inland to the left is Pelasgon and the road that goes inland to the right is Ikion Dolopon. On the harbour front are the travel agencies, bars and tavernas as well as the bus stop and taxi rank. Pelasgon has some tourist shops, car hire, jewellers, bakers, supermarket, tavernas and the islands only newsagents shop. Ikion Dolopon has a much larger range of shops, green grocers, fish monger, butchers, opticians, supermarkets, tavernas, pharmacists, car and bike hire and the island's only bank and ATM machine. At the top of Ikion Dolopon is the medical centre where there are normally three doctors on duty daily for all your medical problems and an emergency dentist. Votsi has a couple of supermarkets and a butchers shop as well as a bar and taverna on the harbour front and tavernas on the headland overlooking the beach and the harbour area. In the Old Village there is a supermarket and bakers (summer only) and a large number of bars, tavernas and tourist shops. Most of tavernas and bars are mainly open in the summer months but there are some that are open all year around. Steni Vala is mainly closed for the summer months but are are is wonderful for walking all year around. During the summer months the harbour, bars and tavernas are the centre for the flotillas of yachts that sail around the islands of the Sporades.
