MOm is the Hellenic Society for the Study and the Protection of the Mediterranean Monk Seal and has a large presence on Alonissos as the island is the centre of the National Marine Park of the North Sporades. The Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monarchus Monarchus) is the most endangered marine mammal in Europe and is in the top 12 of the world's most critically endangered animals. MOm has an information centre at the back of Patitiri harbour which everyone should visit. |
| The MOm information centre is located above the Avra Bar which is next to the Alkyon Hotel at the back of the port area in Patitiri. Between the Cave bar and the Avra bar you will see the above sign located to the left of some stone stairs which go up to the left. The arrow sign you can see to the right of the page shows a Monk seal pointing the way up the stairs. The steps take a sharp turn to the right about half way up and in front of you will be the entrance to the information centre, which you can see in the picture below. |

| Inside the centre they have display boards with information about the Mediterranean Monk Seal, various exhibits, a video display and various printed leaflets and written information. There are always helpful staff on hand to inform you of the work of MOm and tell you what information is available in the centre. The centre is open in the summer from 10am in the morning until late evening. When we have taken some photos inside the centre we will display them on this page. |
