As of summer 2007 there are six car ferries running around the Sporades connecting the mainland, Evia and the North Aegean islands. Hellenic Seaways have the Express Skiathos which departs from Volos to Alonissos via Skiathos and Skopelos and the other is the GA Ferries Jet Ferry 1 which departs from Agios Konstantinos down the Sporades to Alonissos. We also have images of two previous car ferries the Macedon and the Express Adonis that have provided a service to Alonissos along with the Express Haroula which was the Express Skiathos before being repainted and renamed. The departures for the Hellenic Seaways Express Skiathos from Volos can be found on the Hellenic Seaways web site under Online Booking. The timetable for the GA Ferries Jet Ferry from Agios Konstantinos can be found on the Ferries.gr web site. SAOS Ferries are currently running two ferry boats the SAOS II and the Panagia Soumela on different itineraries that link Alonissos directly with Volos and Agios Konstantinos on the mainland with Kymi on Evia via Skopelos and Skiathos. Click on the link to access their website. In previous years GA ferries have run a service from Thessaloniki to Crete which passed down the Cyclades islands. This service previously only went via Skiathos and Skopelos. During the early summer of 2007 the ferries Dimitroula and Daliana have started running on this line with Alonissos having twice weekly visits from each ferry. The Daliana is one of the biggest ferries ever to come to the Sporades and has to berth on the outer jetty of the harbour at Patitiri and cannot get into the town harbour at Skopelos at all and has to berth right at the very edge of the jetty at the entrance to the harbour. Alonissos has been included in the 2008 schedule with the ferry boats Daliana and Milena making the journey. End of February and start of March 2008 the Express Skiathos was taken out of service and the GA Jet Ferry was not available as a replacement. The route from Volos to Alonissos saw the unexpected appearance of the ferry boat Achilles, which is owned by the islanders of Skyros and runs under the name of the Skyros Shipping Company. The afternoon of Sunday 2nd of March saw the last running of the Achilles and on Monday the 3rd of March saw the appearance of the Express Santorini which is currently running the same timetable as the Express Skiathos and is owned by Hellenic Seaways. Obviously due to its popularity the Achilles started running a twice weekly service on Saturday and Tuesday from 21st June 2008 going between Skyros - Kimi - Alonissos - Skopelos and back. You must never take anything for granted when travelling in Greece so we advise checking timetables before travelling and especially around public holidays in Greece, especially Easter. Take a look at our public holidays page because at these times you are likely to find that the ferry service has been altered, reduced or in some cases cancelled.
