Banking Facilities on Alonissos |
|
The National Bank of Greece is the only bank on the island of Alonissos and is located in Patitiri on Ikion Dolopon Street which is the road to the right when standing with your back to the sea. The road runs upwards from the harbour with the Alkyon Hotel on one corner and the taxi rank and bus stop on the other corner. The bank is a short walk uphill on the left hand side passed the greengrocer's shop and before the Kamaki Ouzeri. See our Patitiri page to view our map of the harbour area of Patitiri. The bank is open Monday - Friday from 8am - 2.30pm (2pm Friday) and has two cashiers to deal with approximately 3,000 inhabitants in addition to the summer influx of tourists and excursion visitors and this can often lead to long waiting times. The inside of the bank has been refurbished to provide additional seating and a queueing system has been introduced. To ensure your place in the queue you need to get a ticket from the machine in the middle of the bank which has a number printed on it. The current number is displayed in red above the cashiers desks. You can then pop off and have a drink at a local bar or do your shopping and go back when your time is nigh. Our basic rule of thumb is that each transaction takes no less than 5 minutes, so multiply the difference between the current number and the one on your ticket and this is the approximate timescale for you to get served. Of course some people will take a ticket and not return so be careful. Alternatively there is an ATM machine set into the outside wall which appears to be very reliable and handles most types of credit and debit cards. Don't get too reliant on this machine because it has been known to run out of money in the height of summer when demand is very high or when the weather has been so bad that money cannot be delivered from the mainland. |
